to start with, here is an image off an DIY laser machine with a glass co2 lasertube ( see parts list for more informationt). the gantry is constructed from 50 x 25 mm aluminium tubing.
to keep it simpler we wil be using a standard gantry and use it to mount our mirrors and laser tube.
for those who are new to laser at all, A CO2 laser tube works by exciting a mixture of gases, including carbon dioxide, with an electrical discharge to create a concentrated beam of laser light. The laser beam is then directed through mirrors to focus and amplify the light, allowing it to cut or engrave materials with precision. The power and quality of the laser beam can be adjusted by changing the gas mixture, tube size, and electrical current used.
For comparison, this 45-watt rated machine is cutting 6mm plywood at 850 mm/min and has a workspace of 70 x 70 cm. For the build, the size of the work area will be decided by the gantry you choose to use.
